Travel Agent Stories

A  'travel agent' offers some examples of how low we can go...

1.I had a woman ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window.    (On an airplane!)

2. I got a call from a man who wanted to go to Cape Town. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then he interrupted me with, ''I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Cape Town is in Massachusetts ..''

Without trying to make him look stupid, I calmly explained, ''Cape Cod is in Massachusetts , Cape Town is in South Africa ..'' His response -- click..

3. A senior citizen called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando . He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried to explain that's not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state.
He replied, 'Don't lie to me!, I looked on the map, and Florida is a very THIN state!!'' (OMG)

4. I got a call from a customer's wife who asked, ''Is it possible to see England from Canada ?''
I said, ''No.''
She said, ''But they look so close on the map'' (OMG, again!)

5. An aide for an executive once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas .. I pulled up the reservation and noticed he had only a 1-hour layover in Dallas ... When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, ''I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time.'' (Aghhhh)

6. A woman called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m., and got to Chicago at 8:33 a.m.
I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois , but she couldn't understand the concept of time zones. Finally, I told her the plane went really, really fast, and she bought that.

7. A New Yorker called and asked, ''Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?'' I said, 'No, why do you ask?'

He replied, ''Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight. I think that's very rude!''

After putting him on hold for a minute, while I looked into it. (I was dying laughing). I came back and explained the city code for Fresno , Ca. is (FAT - Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on his luggage..

8. A man called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii . After going over all the cost info, he asked, ''Would it be cheaper to fly to California and then take the train to Hawaii ?''

9. I just got off the phone with a young man from Alabama who asked, ''How do I know which plane to get on?''
I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, ''I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them.''

10.  A woman called and said, ''I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola , Florida . Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?''
I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola and fly on a commuter plane.
She said, ''Yeah, whatever, smarty!''

11 A woman called and had a question about the documents she needed in order to fly to China . After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded her that she needed a visa. "Oh, no I don't. I've been to China many times and never had to have one of those.''
I double checked and sure enough, her stay required a visa. When I told her this she said, ''Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!''

12 A New Jersey man called to make reservations, ''I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York .''
I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, ''Are you sure that's the name of the town?''
'Yes, what flights do you have?'' replied the man.
After some searching, I came back with, ''I'm sorry, sir, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a rhino anywhere."
'The man retorted, ''Oh, don't be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!''
So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ''You don't mean Buffalo , do you?''
The reply? ''Whatever! I knew it was a big animal.''

Military Officer Evaluation One-Liners

What follows are extracts allegedly taken from British Military Officers' Annual Confidential Reports across the decades.  Thanks to Isabelle Barraja for passing this on!

17. He has the wisdom of youth, and the energy of old age.

27. Got into the gene pool while the lifeguard wasn't watching.
28. If you stand close enough to him, you can hear the ocean.
29. It's hard to believe that he beat 1,000,000 other sperm.
30. A room temperature IQ.
31. Got a full 6-pack, but lacks the plastic thing to hold it all together.
32. A gross ignoramus, 144 times worse than an ordinary ignoramus.
33. He has a photographic memory but has the lens cover glued on.
34. He has been working with glue too long.
35. When his IQ reaches 50, he should sell.
36. This man hasn't got enough grey matter to sole the flip-flop of a one legged budgie.
37. If two people are talking, and one looks bored, he's the other one.
38. One-celled organisms would outscore him in IQ tests.
39. He donated his body to science before he was done using it.
40. Fell out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down.
41. He's so dense, light bends around him.
42. If brains were taxed, he'd get a rebate.
43. Some drink from the fountain of knowledge; he only gargled.
44. Takes him 1.1/2 hours to watch 60 minutes.
45. Wheel is turning, but the hamster is long dead.

BUBBA AT THE REVIVAL

Bubba goes to the revival and listens to the
preacher. After a while, the preacher asks anyone

with needs to come forward and be prayed over.

Bubba gets in line and when it's his turn the
preacher says, "Bubba, what you want me to pray

about?" Bubba says, "Preacher, I need you to pray
for my hearing."

So the preacher puts one finger in Bubba's ear and
the other hand on top of his head and prays a while.

After a few minutes, he removes his hands and
says, "Bubba, how's your hearing now?"

Bubba says, "I don't know preacher, it's not until
next Wednesday."

Once Upon A Time On The High Seas...

Once upon a time on the ocean...
Two tankers were trapped in heavy seas. One carried a load of red paint; the other carried purple.

Despite the heroic efforts of their captains, the ships drifted closer and closer together, until finally, they crashed together.

The sailors were marooned.

TEXAS SURGEONS

Three surgeons from Texas were golfing together and discussing operations they had performed.

One of them said, "I'm the best surgeon in Texas. A concert pianist lost 7 fingers in an accident. I reattached them, and 8 months later he performed a private concert for the Queen of England."

One of the others said, "That's nothing. A young man lost both arms and legs in an accident. I reattached them, and 2 years later he won a gold medal in track & field at the Olympics."

The third surgeon said, "You guys are amateurs. Many years ago some cowboys who were drunk and high on cocaine decided to see who could survive riding their horses head-on into a train traveling 80 miles an hour.
All I had left to work with was a mashed-up mess of horse's asses and a cowboy hat. I put 'em all back together and they all went on to become politicians running for President."

LAS VEGAS

Many people are surprised that "sin city" Las Vegas is really quite a
conservative place. There is a Mormon church on almost every corner,
and there are more Catholic churches there than casinos.

Not so surprising, however, is the fact that some worshippers at
Sunday services will give casino chips rather than cash when the
basket is passed.

Since they get chips from so many different casinos, the churches have
devised a method to collect the offerings. The churches send all their
collected chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting, and then
the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in.

This is done by a chip monk.

THINGS TO PONDER (author unknown)

A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you're in deep water.

How come it takes so little time for a child who is
afraid of the dark to become a teenager who wants to
stay out all night?

Business conventions are important because they
demonstrate how many people a company can operate
without.

Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than
everyone else looks?

Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job.

No one has more driving ambition than the boy who
wants to buy a car.

There are no new sins....the old ones just get more
publicity.

There are worse things than getting a call for a wrong
number at 4 AM. It could be a right number.

Think about this..., No one ever says "It's only a
game" when his team is winning

Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make
him wag his tail.

The nicest thing about the future is that it always
starts tomorrow.

If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably don't
have any sense at all.

Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs.

I've reached the age where the happy hour is a nap.

Be careful reading the fine print. There's no way
you're going to like it.

The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody
has the same size bucket.

Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have
thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more
comfortable to cry in a Corvette than in a Yugo.

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in
every joint, you are probably dead.

ACTUAL QUESTIONS ABOUT CANADA

Real Questions Submitted to the Canadian Tourist Board (and how they SHOULD have answered)

Q: I have never seen it warm on Canadian TV, so how do the plants grow? (UK)
A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around and watch them
die. Except for the totem poles, which grow twenty centimetres per year.

Q: Will I be able to see polar bears in the street? (USA)
A: This will depend upon how much you've been drinking.

Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto-can I follow the railroad
tracks? (Sweden)
A: Yes. It's only four thousand miles, so take lots of water.

Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada, but I forget its name.
It is kind of big horse with horns. (France)
A: It's called a moose. They are tall and very violent and eat the brains of
anyone walking close to them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself
with goose urine before you go out walking.

Q: Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Canada? Can you send me a list of
them in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton & Halifax? (UK)
A: There is one in each city. The queues form to the left, and bring a
lunch, since they are quite busy dispensing two American dollars for every
Canadian dollar.

Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Canada? (Denmark)
A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Ca-na-da
is that big country north of-oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every
Tuesday night in Calgary. Come naked.

Q: Which direction is north in Canada? (Mexico)
A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and
we'll send the rest of the directions.

Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada? (UK)
A: Why? Just use toboggan spikes like we do.

Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (Portugal)
A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is-oh
forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir performs every Tuesday night in
Vancouver and in Calgary, immediately after the hippo races. But remember,
you must come naked.

Q: Do you have perfume in Canada? (Germany)
A: What for? It is like catnip to a moose.

Q: I have developed a new product that is fountain of youth. Can you tell me
where I can sell it in Canada? (Japan)
A: Anywhere a significant number of Americans gather. Try any Starbucks or
McDonalds.

Q: Can you tell me the regions in British Columbia where the female
population is smaller than the male population? (Italy)
A: Yes. Gay nightclubs.

Q: Is Thanksgiving celebrated in Canada? (USA)
A: Yes, every second Monday in October since 1729, but only if all the
igloos have been re-iced.

Q: Are there supermarkets in Toronto and is milk available all year round?
(Germany)
A: No. We are a peaceful civilization of vegan hunter-gatherers. Milk is
illegal, except for babies. Was ist ein Supermarkt?

Q: I was in Canada in 1969 on R&R, and I want to contact the girl I dated
while I was staying in Surrey, B.C. Can you help? (UK)
A: Yes, but you will still have to pay her by the hour.

Q: Will I be able to speak English most places I go? (USA)
A: In most places, yes, but in some places proper English is greeted with
gunfire, so you should be safe.

Q: Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Canada? (Sweden)
A: So it 'is' true what they say about Swedes.the answer is yes, but don't
forget the goose urine. And lots of water if you're walking from Vancouver
to Toronto.

WISDOM OF THE ELDER

Diane was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road. As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride.  With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.

Resuming the journey, Diane tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Diane.

"What's in the bag?" asked the old woman.

Diane looked down at the brown bag and said, "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband."

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two. Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said, "Good trade."

NARROW MISS IN FLORIDA

A senior citizen in Florida bought a brand new Corvette convertible. He took off down the road, flooring it to 80 mph and enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left on his head. "This is great," he thought as he roared down I-75.
He pushed the pedal to the metal even more. Then he looked in his rear view mirror and saw a highway patrol trooper behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. "I can get away from him with no problem" thought the man and he tromped it some more and flew down the road at over 100 mph. Then 110, 120 mph. Then he thought, "What am I doing? I'm too old for this kind of thing." He pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the trooper to catch up with him.
The trooper pulled in behind the Corvette and walked up to the man. "Sir," he said, looking at his watch. "My shift ends in 30 minutes, and I have the day off tomorrow. If you can give me a reason why you were speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."
The man looked at the trooper and said, "Years ago my wife ran off with a Florida State Trooper, and I was afraid you might be bringing her back."
"Have a good day, Sir," said the Trooper.
